If you want to go scuba diving with turtles then Gili Air is the place to be! Did you know that here at the Gili Islands we have more than 150 individual green sea turtles? Green sea turtles are easily identified by their large size and smooth carapace, or shell. They’re the only herbivorous species of turtle, which gives them a green layer of fat under their skin and is why they are called green sea turtles! Lucky divers Tony and Trevor saw 15 of these graceful creatures on their Deep Adventure Dive as part of their Advanced Open Water Course and even got some sweet turtle t-shirts as congratulations for passing their course. Great job guys!

As well as diving with of turtles, Tony and Trevor also saw a hunting reef octopus, a Spanish dancer, and a giant frogfish throughout their course here, and even a dark margin glossodoris on their Navigation Dive! The Gili Islands have so much aquatic life – big and small – and there’s always interesting things to find while diving here, even during training courses.
In other news, this week we celebrated with Ines as she completed her Divemaster Training! She was an absolute rock star both above and below the water as she assisted instructors with courses, helped welcome fun divers, and crushed her skills circuit. She’s heading to the Two Fish in South Lombok for some fun diving and we wish her lots of luck (and some shark sightings) and know she’s going to be an incredible Divemaster.
