Sea cucumbers are found on most sea floors around the world and well… we think they’re kinda weird. Some are so spectacular they can be mistaken for nudibranch or anemones such as the yellow sea cucumber (above), colochirus robustus. Some have lumps, bumps or spikes like the prickly redfish, thelenota ananas and some that we see are black and white sea cucumber such as the pearsonothuria graffei). Some have strange little legs or “tube feet” that are in the wrong place on their body for movement and their walking motion is in fact grazing behaviour. We have a great number of different species of cucumber in the waters around Two Fish Divers in Sekotong, South Lombok (AKA The Dive Farm). This biodiversity is a fantastic indicator of how healthy our reefs are (in our case, very diverse and very healthy) so we’re always extremely happy to see a lot of our different sea cucumbers when diving here – even though they are a little strange to look at!
This week we also had the pleasure of hosting more visiting dive professionals (PADI Instructors and Divemasters) to our Belongas dives. That’s because the Belongas dive region is known in professional circles as a challenging and exciting dive, so it’s no surprise to see it draw more and more pros from further afield on their days off! A number of these pros also joined us back in Sekotong for our local diving as the coral and macro rich sites (including the aforementioned sea cucumbers) are worth the extra day to investigate while you’re visiting these parts. Last week we said goodbye to our PADI Divemaster trainee (DMT) Hazel and this week we get to say hello to our new DMTs, Maud and Maria….. welcome to Two FIsh DIvers South Lombok! We look forward to helping Maud prep for her eventual PADI IDC (Instructor Development Course) as well as sharing our naturalist knowledge with Maria as part of our ECO Divemaster course!
Would you like to join us in South Lombok for fun diving or PADI courses? Did you know that it’s easy to combine diving in South Lombok with diving in the Gili Islands, Amed on mainland Bali and Nusa Lembongan? Are you interested in taking a PADI Divemaster internship? Or perhaps you are ready to take your PADI Instructor Development Course in Indonesia? Whatever your requirements (and questions), fill in the form below and we will get right back to you!
