South Lombok, Belongas….We seem to have a community of white tip reef sharks. At out famous dive site “The Magnet” which is a pinnacle that peaks out the surface with a lighthouse on it, slopes down to 65 meters at one point and has a hangover stretching around 10-15 meters long and 6 meters deep. This is where we often find 5-7 white tip reef sharks swimming around and even chilling on the hangover bed. The magnet is famous for scalloped hammerhead sharks, great hammerhead sharks, and schools of barracudas, trevally, eagle rays and even the odd manta rays. All of these species can be seen unpredictably and UN guaranteed, but the white tip reef shark is always there. So agile, peaceful, relaxed and graceful. Such a beautiful fish to come encounter with in the ocean.
Among our white tip we have finally been lucky enough to have the company of Mobula rays for a whole week now! The schools have ranged from 10-30 in each. Mobula rays are often found at our dive site called “Gili Sarang”. Another beautiful site which is full of colourful soft corals, harlequin shrimps, blue spotted stingray, squid, unicorn fish, scorpion fish, lionfish and again white tip reef sharks.
The hammerheads have been spotted all week from one day 15 to the next 25, waves have been so so and current next to none. A good week so far in Belongas for our divers.
