It’s been just over two weeks since I first arrived in Nusa Lembongan and began my Divemater Internship and I can’t quiet believe how fast the time has gone! Once I arrived I got stuck straight into the Divemaster training with a typical day consisting of arriving at the dive shop at 7am to get equipment ready and load the tanks onto the boat before heading out to complete two morning dives. After lunch there’s often a pool session to practice skills followed by some dive theory, completing knowledge reviews from the dive manual.
In my first week I was able to assist on an Open Water course as well as Advanced open water dives and a Discover Scuba Diving course. It’s a great feeling to be able to witness the joy of someone’s fist few breaths underwater as a new diver.
Unfortunately in my second week I managed to catch a cold that wouldn’t budge and rendered me to stay dry for a few days, however during the time on dry land I’ve been able to complete a large portion of theory, passing my first two exams, as well as completing a few specialty courses including Nitrox, Coral Reef Conservation and Shark Awareness.
Thankfully I was back in the water today and got the chance to lead my first dive which was both exciting and a little bit nerve-racking!
I have another four weeks here in Nusa Lembongan before I complete my Divemaster and am looking forward to gaining more skills and becoming more confident in the water as well as continuing to dive the beautiful sites around Nusa Penida!
