The rare Engagement Ring Fish was spotted in Lembeh this week after Will arranged for a beautiful underwater proposal to Jo. The ring was placed in a Giant Clamshell and left for Jo to discover. After she check-marked “YES” on a provided slate, they received underwater congratulations from 15 fellow Two Fish divers. It was an unforgettable proposal to everyone present, and one guest admitted to even tearing up a bit in her mask… Two Fish sends a huge congratulations to Will, Jo and their families on their beautiful engagement!
In other news, due to the joint manifestation abilities of two repeat couples (Chris/Jo and Ceci/Ben), dive guide Rein was able to find them a Hairy Octopus at Nudi Falls this week! As most Lembeh divers can attest, the Hairy Octopus remains the Holy-Grail of octopus on most critter-lists and rarely gets checked-marked off. However, this year has been a hot year for the little octopus: Two Fish Divers’ guides have spotted 10 of these hairy beasts since the beginning of the year!
Flamboyant Cuttlefish continued to hatch out of their little egg-casings this week, much to the delight of our visiting photographers and videographers at Two Fish Divers, Lembeh! The normally white, cm-long babies flash their colors a few times just before hatching, which is a great fact to know if trying to catch the hatch on film. Once hatched, the hungry juveniles immediately commence hunting while flashing the most brilliant, flamboyant colors you ever will see.
Also spotted at Two Fish Divers Lembeh this week was the rare Mosaic Octopus, as well as the Greater Blue-Ringed Octopus, which I dare say are both much rarer sightings than the Hairy Octopus this year! The Phyllodesmium rudmani nudibranch always confuses (then delights!) divers who can’t figure out why their guide is so excited about a normal looking clump of Xenia coral. (Spoiler alert: it’s because the entire clump of coral is in fact a perfectly camouflaged nudibranch!)
That’s all about Engagement Ring Fish. To make some of these amazing sightings yours, join us for a dive at Two Fish Divers, Lembeh!
