This week in Bunaken… PADI Open Water students Katharina and Johannes from Germany got an exceptional treat during their open water dive 3 when a large thresher shark came cruising up from the depths to have a closer look at them! Thresher sharks are deep water sharks that sometimes come up to shallow cleaning stations to get parasites and dead skin removed by cleaner fish.
Johannes and Katharina together with instructor Dom and DMT Carmelo had their encounter at the dive site Lekuan III where there is no known cleaning station so to see this elusive shark just swimming by during a dive to 18 m is truly a once in a live time-thing. All about being at the right place at the right time. Lucky students!!
With is being full moon this week we have noticed quite a bit of current during the dives. And even though a current can make it harder to find the critters, the big guys have loved it! Plenty of eagle rays and reef sharks messing around in the moving water. Ben from Switzerland had seven (7!) eagle rays sitting in formation in the current and if that wasn’t enough a white tip reef shark swam straight through the group of rays.
During the week both our PADI Divemasters in training have graduated. Carmelo from Switzerland has spent 8 weeks with us and gone from an inexperienced Adventure diver to a confident PADI Divemaster as well as TDI Advanced Nitrox, Decompression Procedures and Sidemount diver. Sas from the UK started her Divemaster training at Two Fish in Lembongan and spent the last two weeks of her course with us in Bunaken. Both are now leaving with the dive world at their feet. Congratulations guys, we will miss you!
Nice blog!!
Thank you! 🙂
