Diving in both Lembeh and Bunaken will give you two contrasting diving locations, world class dive sites and an excellent mix of big fish and macro. Are you hoping to combine your diving with exploring some of North Sulawesi on land? The Minahasan Highlands are stunning and you’ll see everything from volcanoes and crater lakes through to small rural villages and traditional markets.
If you are planning to dive at both Two Fish Resorts (Bunaken and Lembeh), we are able to offer an overnight tour of the region while linking your two diving locations.

How Does The North Sulawesi Tour Transfer Work?
We aim to leave Bunaken at around 9am by boat and you’ll be met by your tour guide at the harbor in Manado. From there you’ll drive up through the highlands to Tomohon – stopping along the way to take in some of the sights and points of interest. You’ll stay overnight in Tomohon and continue with the tour and transfer the next day, arriving in our Lembeh Resort around 5pm.

Tomohon region and Lokon volcano
What Is There To Do and See Around Tomohon?
Tomohon is the highland region of North Sulawesi where tea, coffee, cocoa and exotic flowers are grown. Life in the area moves at a slow pace and the people are incredibly friendly and welcoming to visitors. Here are some of the highlights its possible to see along the way.

Tomohon market is a hive of activity but can be a little “extreme”
Tomohon Market
The local market in Tomohon is famous throughout North Sulawesi. The market occupies two main buildings as well as numerous stands and stalls surrounding them. In one side of the market you’ll find fresh produce, flowers, sweet treats and spices. The other side of the market (it can be avoided) is where the meat and fish is sold and it’s not for the faint of heart – especially on Saturdays. The meat on sale ranges from beef, chicken and pork through to bats, rats, cats, dogs, huge pythons and other “bush meats”. It’s certainly eye opening…

It’s possible to walk around the entire crater rim of Mahawu
Mahawu Volcano
Mahawu volcano is one of the most accessible volcanoes in North Sulawesi. It’s possible to drive to half way up the slopes and park at a ranger station from where the walk to the crater rim takes around 20 minutes, walking up steps. For those who want to be more active, it’s possible to circumnavigate the crater’s rim and enjoy stunning views over the highlands. There is also a viewing area with views down into the crater.

Seeing black macaques in the wild is one of the highlights of Tangkoko
Tangkoko Nature Reserve
This tour can be incorporated but we recommend taking the tour as a morning tour from Lembeh rather than Bunaken. The Tangkoko Nature Reserve lies at the base of the Dua Saudara Mountain and is a mix of jungle, forest, peaks and troughs. The area is home to many endemic species including the tarsier monkey, black macaques, monitor lizards and numerous species of exotic birds. Watching the wild life in its natural environment is a highlight of visiting North Sulawesi – this tour is definitely one for nature lovers and photographers!

Lake (Danau) Tondano is the largest lake in North Sulawesi
Lake Tondano
This immense crater lake is the largest lake in North Sulawesi and its banks are occupied by numerous small fishing villages. The grilled fish is a local favourite and usually served with rice, vegetables and some spicy “sambal” (chilli sauce). Lake Tondano is a great spot to stop and see how the locals live in the highlands as well as take in the incredible views and stunning scenery.
There are many other interesting places to visit in North Sulawesi and we aim to tailor make the tour as much as possible to match your interests.
