Hello everyone! I introduce myself: my name is Dario, I’m a former Software Engineer with a big passion for traveling. After my last small holiday in Asia I felt that it was not enough. So at the first opportunity, I resigned and went scootering around Flores and East Java with my girlfriend. Since being already in Indonesia I decided to train to be a Divemaster and to do my Divemaster internship at Two Fish divers get a full immersion of my new discovered passion. First stop: Nusa Lembongan!
Blending with all the experienced and demanding divers in Lembongan has been a tough challenge as I began my journey to train to be a Divemaster. I arrived right in the middle of high season which meant that the operation was very busy, requiring me lot of improvisations with many mistakes here and there! Not to mention the strong currents and unexpected low water temperatures: who thought I had to wear a hood and a 5mm long wet suit in a tropical island? On the other hand I had the chance to observe and learn from very experienced divers, which contributed to speed up my learning path. Diving in warm temperatures and mild currents is now just a piece of cake!
Big thanks to the boat crews of Ikan Layar and Freedom: smiles and cookies were always ready for me every time I came out of cold water. You are amazing!
While getting more experience in Nusa Lembongan, I also attended the EFR and Rescue course with Mel, Jani and Thomas as the instructor. The courses were intense but funny at the same time. I’m really grateful for his “zen” patience and all the tips I learned for people saving!

Two weeks in Lembongan went away very fast, and it was time to move to Two Fish Divers Resort on Gili Air, my first of the two dive center transfers. Just before my arrival I’ve been told that there are no motorized vehicles and the island if full of cats. Wow, my definition of paradise! I’m beginning to think that my decision to train to be a divemaster was the best ever!
In 3 days I’ve been in the ocean “fun diving” as much as possible to reach 40 dives. It has been the perfect de-load from the intense days in Lembongan: diving was completely free of mind and I could “ease” into the new dive center ways. I had a chance to do many pictures, meet curious marine life, learn new tips from my instructors Jenny, Kelly and the local guides. Thank you so much for the fun times and the beach cleanups!

Meanwhile Mel, my loyal DMT buddy from Lembongan days, got to Gili Air too. It was so nice to have her again on my side, laughing and enjoying our daily clumsiness!
Compared to Lembongan diving in Gili Air is more laid back, but this didn’t mean that life wouldn’t be busy! Once we officially started the Divemaster Internship and Divemaster Course, we “ground” day by day the steps to move forward into our diving education. First with initial chapters of the manual, then assisting Discovery Scuba Diving and Open Water teachings. Here I learned how much effort is necessary for being an instructor: bringing groups of first-timers into the ocean requires lots of responsibility. It’s fun learning so much when you train to be a DIvemaster, including what Instructors are responsible for too.
It squeezed all of my lungs and inner courage to complete the swimming tests and equipment exchange. What a challenge! I also had the chance to guide dives, definitely what I love most of being divemaster! On my first try, I luckily spotted a very outgoing octopus. Instead of hiding, he showed us all his different colors and swimming skills. We spent at least 10 minutes staring at him!

Two weeks passed in the blink of an eye and it was already time to transfer to Two Fish Resort on Bunaken Island. Can’t put into words how much I loved my time in Gili Air, complete affinity with the instructors and the island’s lifestyle. Packing to leave has been very hard! Now it’s onward and upward!
