At the Gilis, Gili Air North Lombok this week, we had our first Open water divers that came out from a try dive!!
Katie and Mike from the UK were by the pool relaxing as I approached offering a free scuba try out. They said they had always wanted to try but never had the chance and were a bit scared. So in the pool we went with the basic knowledge and a briefing on what we will do. Both were brilliant, no problems at all.
After the try-out, we sat and discussed all options from here. They had a good thought about it and opted for the full Open Water course. We started that day with a discover scuba dive out on one of our reefs. From there we had another two days of the course. It was a great experience for them with some challenges to overcome but we made it. By the last two dives you would never guess that they had only just started. On every dive we saw at least 5 turtles, on two of the dives I lost count it was ridiculous, they were everywhere. Such a blessing for all divers, but especially rewarding for beginners. We also saw plenty of Bat fish, Peacock Mantis Shrimps, Fusiliers, Trevally, Crabs, Cuttlefish, Lionfish and Scorpionfish, sweetlips and groupers.
The waves have been pretty big this week, high tides in the morning and calming down by the afternoon affecting the visibility which has dropped from crystal clear to 10-15 meters, still quite good. As the week has progressed the waves are still here but smaller so the visibility is slowly coming back to the norm of clear, clear and more clear blue water.
Our dive centre again is progressing well, we had a couple of days off due to the start of Ramadhan but back in full swing now. The season really is picking up now with divers coming everyday up here in the north.
Thank you Katie and Mike for a fantastic week and we are so happy and proud with your achievement. Wish you all the best in your diving future 😉
