Wow, Chao and I have overcome the challenges that have been thrown at us on our first week as DM intern with Two Fish Divers in Amed.  A super blood wolf moon just over a week ago combined with tropical storm conditions off Australia have combined to make things a little trickier here in Amed this week: bigger waves making entry and exit from shore a little bit trickier and visibility a little less than we would want.

But then, you can’t complain when you are training to be a DM and some of that is in, around, below, and above USAT Liberty wreck, the most famous dive site in Bali and one of the best wreck dives in the world. Thank you, Markus, and Eazy, our instructors

It has not all been a piece of cake. I hope Chao will forgive me for the little bit of sea water that he swallowed as he was the person acting as the unresponsive diver on the surface during one of the rescue skill sessions. Sorry Chao, I will improve, really.

But, if you are going to be a DM you really need to get these skills nailed down just as much as the core skills we take granted.   They are not as “eazy” (pun intended) as you might think and maybe all non-pros might learn something from the occasional tune up – when was the last time you practised CESA

Three more weeks to go: lots of practice on skills, a few stamina tests and one more theory exam to go. Sounds hard? It isn’t easy and it is challenging but in beautiful Bali, working with great professionals, assisting with wonderful customers from around the world and above all diving, what’s not to like.
