Underwater statues near Gili Air. The Gili’s are home to Nest, a collection of underwater statues meant to be a bridge between the human world and the marine world. The 48 human like statues are arranged in a circular formation to represent the circle of life. So much of our coral reef has died over the years that the artist wants to create an environment that will promote coral growth. Soon enough the underwater statues will be covered with coral. The artist, Jason DeCaires Taylor, has exhibits all over the world and we are lucky enough to have one near Gili Air. He hopes that those who visit will see the fragility of the underwater world while enjoying its beauty.
Nest is located at a depth of 5m, a perfect depth for all levels of divers to begin their dive on Meno Slope. Discover Scuba Diver Johannes along with Nadine one of our Open Water Course Students can attest to its beauty. I, Mermaid Meg was joined by Advanced Open Water Student Gregory descending in the soft coral and making a loop around these stunning statues. Gregory was mesmerized by the formation and the crystal clear visibility. A must see when you come to dive in Gili Air. Come any and all levels of divers and see the spectacular Nest here in the Gili’s. We would love to show you.
This week Scuba Sal was joined by two fellow California’s who came to Gili Air to get their Open Water Certification in calm crystal clear waters. We congratulate Adi and Sravya on a job well done and welcome them to the scuba family. Say “Hi” to California for us.
