As a Divemaster you need to be prepared to deal with stressful situations, and this week during my divemaster course in Bunaken I was put through my stess test. During the stress test myself and my buddy, one of Two Fish’s Indonesian dive guides, had to swap all our equipment underwater while buddy-breathing (one regulator between two divers) and being ‘challenged’ by our instructors. I’m not really someone who ever feels stressed but this was quite difficult at times, especially when they’re constantly spraying bubbles in your face or stealing your mask!
The highlight of the week for me and a few of the guests was seeing two Mola Molas (Ocean Sunfish) breaching the surface of the water. Take a look at this week’s Bunaken blog about the Mola-Molas Breaching to read more. As they prefer deeper depths and colder water it was quite a amazing sight.
My week finished with assisting on possibly the easiest open water course ever. Student Elisa was like a fish in the water, giving us plenty of time to enjoy our beautiful walls. My favourite was the fourth dive with a gentle current letting us calmly drift along whilst seeing multiple eagle rays and too many turtles to count. Turtles might be a Bunaken staple, but I personally never get sick of seeing them.
