Dive Bali: THE Best Dive Sites
Nusa Penida
When you dive in Bali, you won’t want to miss out on Nusa Penida. Home to some of Bali’s richest reefs, Nusa Penida has a resident school of manta rays that live along the island’s south coast. The manta rays can measure up to 5 meters across from fin tip to fin tip and they are completely harmless plankton feeders. You’ll be mesmerized as you watch them gliding through the water and hovering over the cleaning station. Manta Point is a must for any diver who likes interesting topographies – there are boulders that have fallen from the cliffs above the site which have created swim-throughs and an underwater playground for divers. Look out for blue-spotted sting rays, octopus, hawksbill turtles, and sea snakes when you dive here. To find out more about sea snakes, read our recent Blog here!. This is an epic dive site and the topside scenery on the way there is breathtaking – be sure to pack your camera!
Tulamben
Dive Bali and the USAT Liberty wreck in Tulamben. The mighty shipwreck is probably Bali’s most famous dive site. As you swim along the sand you’ll start to see here stern coming into view and from then on it’s the dive of a lifetime. The wreck is home to over 400 species of reef fish and many of the features of the wreck are still intact. You can see the captain’s wheel, the cannon, which was added to her for her war years, and you can even swim through one of the ships doorways. The deck of the wreck is broken down so you can swim inside the hold of the ship without needing to be wreck certified as you have direct access to the surface.
For wreck divers who love to delve into wrecks, there is a deeper section of the wreck at around 26 meters which does allow for penetration. The Liberty offers something for all levels and the marine life which she attracts is phenomenal. If you are deciding to dive Bali – make sure The Liberty is on your list.
The local town of Tulamben in a very quiet fishing village with few facilities so we recommend staying in the south and we will pick you up and bring you back. Being located in South Bali means you are also able to explore Nusa Penida and Padang Bai from one central base – no packing, no constant checking in and out of hotels – just decide where you want to stay – we’ll take care of the rest while you enjoy stress-free scuba diving in Bali.
Padang Bai
The quaint fishing town of Padang Bai is home to a harbor which operates boats from Bali to the Gili Islands, Lombok and further afield. Just around the corner from the harbour area, you’ll find the stunning “Blue Lagoon” (pictured at the top of this page). Blue Lagoon has a shallow coral water garden which is home to an array of small reef fish, juveniles and even stingrays and scorpionfish. As you near the drop-off point look out to the blue for passing schools of fusiliers and hunting predators. The sloping reef will keep any diver occupied for dive after dive. Look out for a multitude of nudibranch species, hiding reef fish, cruising turtles and patrolling reef sharks. Padang Bai offers diversity and colour like nowhere else.
